Solar Foods announces an investment plan for Europe's single largest emission reduction moonshot project

SF_Moonshot_1120x630px_v1

We are excited to announce our factory investment plan, which, if realised, would according to our estimation be the largest emission reduction project in Europe. Following signing agreements (Memorandum of Understanding, MoU) with two international customers for commercialisation plan of altogether of 6,000 tonnes of Solein per year - approximately 50% of the full capacity of Factory 02, now in its pre-engineering phase - we are now exploring the option of building not only one but three facilities, Factories 02, 03 and 04, at the same location.

If the investment plan were realised, the Solein produced at these factories would have significant environmental impact. The production capacity of the three production facilities would be 50,000 tonnes of Solein per year, and the factories would consume an estimated 120,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and 270MW of electricity as the main feedstock. Solein's environmental impact is approximately 1% of that of beef production, and if Solein would replace beef meat in the food system, the factories would enable a greenhouse gas emission reduction as substitution benefit in the order of 10 million tonnes CO2 equivalent per year. This is equivalent to 25% of Finland's annual emissions.

Also the economic impact of the factories would be significant: The value of the production from the three factories is estimated at EUR 800 million annually. This is equivalent to 50% of the Finnish food, beverage and tobacco sector’s 2025 goods exports.

Solar Foods has signed two MoUs regarding commercialisation of 6,000 tonnes of Solein per year

SF_Uutiskirje_1120x630px

We are excited to share that we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two international customers for commercialisation plan of altogether 6,000 tonnes of Solein per year. The MoUs are a joint plan of the companies, and they outline the fundamental principles of the planned collaboration, towards commercialization and binding agreements.

We have already been working together with these customers on research and product development, and are now deepening our collaboration, aiming for new product launches first in the United States.

Should the collaboration lead to binding agreements, the total volume commitment of 6,000 tonnes of Solein per year would correspond to approximately 50% of the full production capacity of Factory 02, our next production facility, which is now in its pre-engineering phase. Once fully operational, the annual planned capacity of Factory 02 will be 12,800 tonnes of Solein annually - nearly a hundred times the design capacity of our already operational Factory 01.
